On September 30 we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada and we are reminded of this cruel part of Canada’s history and the terrible legacy that resulted. At Xyólheméylh we deal with the direct result of colonialism and residential schools, and the intergenerational pain that has resulted. Every day we work with the impacts of this legacy but are also reminded of the resiliency of Indigenous people. We’d like to thank the Elders, Mary, Julie and Louise, for their courage in sharing their lived experience of residential schools in this video.
